The submission recommended that Canada prioritize improved market access for agricultural exports by reducing tariffs and addressing barriers that limit trade opportunities. The submission highlighted the importance of strengthening existing export relationships, particularly for pulses and soybeans, while exploring opportunities for additional Canadian agricultural products in the Turkish market.
It also emphasized the need for strong science-based sanitary and phytosanitary rules, transparent regulatory processes, and effective dispute-settlement mechanisms to ensure Canadian exporters can reliably access the market. At the same time, the CFA stressed that Canada must maintain its high standards for food safety, animal and plant health, and biosecurity.
Finally, the CFA called on the government to fully protect Canada’s supply management system, carefully assess impacts on sensitive sectors, and ensure no agricultural commodities are traded away to secure gains in other sectors.
