HALIFAX, N.S. – July 17, 2026 – The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) concluded its 2026 Summer Meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, bringing together farm leaders from across Canada, industry stakeholders, parliamentarians, and federal, provincial, and territorial Ministers to discuss the future of Canadian agriculture and align priorities ahead of the next agricultural policy framework. The event featured the CFA Policy Summit and the annual Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Ministers Roundtable.
The Summer Meeting also highlighted Nova Scotia agriculture through events hosted by CFA member, the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA). NSFA welcomed CFA members and industry stakeholders for a day of farm tours showcasing the province’s diverse agricultural sector and innovative farming practices, followed by a farm-to-table dinner celebrating Nova Scotia’s farmers and local food production.
The 2026 CFA Policy Summit, themed “Building Canada’s Agricultural Growth Engine: Policy Priorities for the Next Policy Framework,” served as a national forum for dialogue on the policy measures needed to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term resilience of Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector. Discussions focused on innovation, productivity, value-added agriculture, economic growth, and the policy tools required to ensure Canadian farmers remain globally competitive.
Throughout the Summit, speakers and panelists examined opportunities to unlock growth across the agriculture value chain, emphasizing the need for strategic investments, efficient regulatory systems, stronger risk management programs, and policies that support adoption of innovation on farms. Participants also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the next policy framework delivers measurable outcomes for producers while supporting food security objectives.
Building on the conversations held during the Policy Summit, CFA welcomed Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Agriculture and senior government officials to the annual FPT Roundtable. The Roundtable provided an opportunity for farm leaders and governments to discuss shared priorities for the Next Agricultural Policy Framework and identify areas for collaboration as the sector navigates economic uncertainty, changing market conditions, and increasing demands on productivity and sustainability.
“The conversations held during this year’s Policy Summit and FPT Roundtable demonstrated the strong commitment across the sector and government to building a more productive, resilient, and sustainable future for Canadian agriculture,” said Keith Currie, CFA President. “As governments begin shaping the next policy framework, farmers are ready to work collaboratively on solutions that strengthen competitiveness, support innovation, and create opportunities for growth across rural Canada.”
The CFA Summer Meeting reinforced the importance of maintaining a united national voice on key agricultural issues and ensuring producers remain at the centre of policy development.
As discussions on the next agricultural policy framework continue, CFA will work closely with its members and government partners to advance the priorities identified during the meeting and support a thriving Canadian agriculture sector.
