The submission outlined how supply chain disruptions have tremendous negative impacts for farmers, impacting their profitability, competitiveness and the overall trade reputation of Canada.
Preventing disruptions before they happen is critical to protecting farmers, maintaining stable supply chains, and keeping Canadian agriculture competitive at home and abroad.
To address this, CFA recommended the following:
- Start labour negotiations earlier and use structured timelines to avoid last-minute conflicts
- Bring in mediation sooner, including the use of special mediators to keep talks on track
- Give government stronger authority to step in and resolve disputes before they halt key transportation systems
