As part of the Moving Economies Coalition, CFA signed onto a joint submission which focused on practical reforms to make Canada’s supply chains more resilient, competitive, and durable.
The submission outlined the negative impacts that supply chain disruptions have had on various sectors such as agriculture, forestry, minerals, automotives, fertilizer and more.
The submission recommended the following specific reforms:
- A new special mediator can be appointed that will make recommendations to the parties in dispute on the terms of a new agreement. The recommendations are provided to the parties and the government and should be made public;
- An explicit and purpose-built statutory authority for the federal cabinet to impose final binding arbitration when a work stoppage would cause national or disproportionate economic harm;
- Enable a B.C.-wide geographic certification for West Coast port terminals, bringing Canada’s largest and most strategically significant port complex into alignment with the rest of the country and with Canada’s major competitors in the United States.
