The Government of Canada has notified that it will open consultations on the development of a Clean Fuel Standard. The standard would adopt a lifecycle analysis approach to determine reductions in the carbon footprint of fuels supplied in Canada.
This would differ from the current approach which sets a minimum percentage requirement for biofuel in both diesel and gasoline.
A discussion paper is expected in February 2017 that will further guide consultations on this issue which will also include a series of meetings and workshops. More information on the announcement is available here.
